Many would agree that self-confidence plays a huge chunk of role in almost every aspect that leads us to a successful and fulfilling career as a virtual assistant. This trait is an essential commodity in freelancing. Some research says that confidence itself is partly genetic, but, to a lot of individuals, it is not an innate characteristic..
One skill that most freelancers struggled with is self-confidence. When one decides to be self-employed, there are always these lingering doubts at the back of his or her mind, “Can I do it? or Am I good enough? “It is when there is skepticism about your abilities and capabilities.
So how do you boost your self-esteem as a newbie in Virtual Assistance?
Acknowledge your fears and doubts
Recognize your doubts and fears and determine the sources of these anxieties. Then decide whether you will confront or to avoid it. Dealing with fears can be challenging and makes you uncomfortable but remember that you will never know the greatness you are capable of if you will not step outside of your comfort zone. The more you focus on our concerns, the more intense they appear and before you know it, it cripples you. Learn to move forward and let not fear stop you. Focus more on the possibilities of success.
Have a positive mindset
If you want to develop self-confidence in your freelancing ventures, you need to have a positive mindset. Sometimes, most of the negative self-talk can be paralyzing and convince us that we are inadequate or not competitive enough. Doubting yourself and your abilities can limit your personal and professional growth as an online service provider. It would be best that we avoid listening to that critical inner voice and instead focus on having a positive mindset and start making positive changes, such as focusing on things you can do to your client and how you can help him or her in the best way you can.
Invest in Self-Development
“There is no more profitable investment than investing in yourself. It is the best investment you can make; you can never go wrong with it. It is the true way to improve yourself to be the best version of you and lets you be able to best serve those around you.” ― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
Another way to gain confidence in the freelancing world is to invest in yourself. I could not agree more that the best investment you can make, is in YOU. Spend time to develop yourself, so you can best serve others. Take a freelancing course and training to learn a new set of skills or update existing ones. Slowly build your profile. Continuously expanding one's knowledge positions you strategically in a competitive freelancing world. It is also a great way to transform your fears into actions. You can also get a mentor and be a part of a community of virtual assistants where you can get support and ideas. These people can be the best go-to person in case you need advice on how to handle different tasks. Just do not be afraid to ask for help. This is a good platform to get or give feedback, as well as encourage each other. Joining this kind of group make you realize that you are not alone.
Celebrate Small Wins
I want to share to you some lines from John Maxwell’s book, “Be A People Person”
“Another way to develop confidence is to put a few wins under your belt. Start building o small successes and little by little you will tackle bigger and bigger challenges. A few victories under your belt gives you the impetus to keep stretching your abilities. If you keep winning, you may see yourself as a no-limits person. Repeated failures produce the opposite effect. You begin to see yourself as a hopeless loser. The best way to develop rational, well-balanced confidence is to go after a few victories immediately following a failure. Don’t allow yourself the luxury of wallowing in self-pity.”
Keep track of your achievements and success. Internalize your accomplishments or making a journal of your progress is also a great idea. With this, you can have an accurate view of your strengths. Make it a habit to be grateful for all the big and small wins you attain daily as an online administrative support provider. This can bolster your self-confidence as a freelancer.
There are more effective ways to gain confidence in freelancing, but one important thing we must understand is that self-belief is a skill that can be developed and starting a virtual assistance business can be challenging. It requires effort; however, it might be hard for others to accomplish, just keep in mind to never give up, learn to press on. Focus on your goals, may it be that you want to be home with your family, spend more time with your kids, or financial stability, whatever it is, fight for it.
